Ait Ben Haddou & Ouarzazate

Ait Ben Haddou & Ouarzazate – Journey Through Morocco’s Ancient History

Step into the past with a visit to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Ouarzazate, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. A day trip to these locations will take you through Morocco’s historical heart, where ancient kasbahs and Berber architecture come to life.

In the early morning, our driver will pick you up whenever you are. Then, as you get ready for the trip, our driver will drive you towards the Kasbah of AIT BEN HADDOU, a fortified village and a UNESCO World Heritage. Along the way to the Kasbah, we will pass through a variety of fascinating views like Tizi-n-Tichka that is a mountain pass in Morocco known as the gateway to Tafilalet Desert. Once we reach our destination, you will notice that the Kasbah is on the other side of a river; therefore, as you get yourself ready to cross the river, your exploring trip will begin. As we enter the Kasbah, you will get surprised with its oldness, beauty and quietness. You will also notice that the Kasbah is still inhabited by some Berber families despite its oldness. This originates to the extent to which these families stick to their heritage and their ancestral land. Our excursion inside the Kasbah will end by having lunch in a traditional place and then driving you towards what most Moroccans prefer to call it the Hollywood of Africa, Ouarzazate. As we reach Ouarzazate, we will take the opportunity to visit one of the three amazing places in the city which are: the Cinema studios where several famous films have been filmed such as, The Mummy, Gladiator, and Game of Thrones, and the Taourirt and Tifoultoute’s Kasbah. After enjoying Ouarzazate and its main monuments, we will end our journey by deriving you back to Marrakech and getting you checked into your accommodations.

  • Highlights:

    • Explore the iconic Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village that has appeared in numerous films and TV shows (including Game of Thrones and Gladiator).

    • Visit the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a maze of traditional earthen buildings and narrow alleyways.

    • Stop at Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Morocco,” home to famous film studios and the stunning Taourirt Kasbah.
